Volunteer Drivers

You can make a big difference to people’s lives by volunteering to drive your car for Community Connexions. Imagine being unable to go shopping, visit loved ones or attend vital health appointments. This is the reality for the people you can help as a community transport volunteer.

Loneliness and isolation are growing issues in the UK, transport is vital for helping people retain their independence and tackle loneliness from social and rural isolation.

We rely on volunteers drivers to help deliver our services, without volunteers we wouldn’t be able to take people shopping, to visit their loved ones or to health appointments.

Last year, we helped over 60,000 people across Gloucestershire, we anticipate another 30,000 people will need our help by 2025.

Volunteer car owner drivers are welcome from all backgrounds and walks of life. You use your car, we pay expenses. Give as little or as much time as you can, we will match opportunities to your area and the time you have available. You will receive full training.

Not only is volunteering an effective way to help people in your community, but it’s also an opportunity for you to meet new people and develop new skills.

Hear what our volunteers have to say

I started volunteering six months after I retired and am now just starting my eleventh year. I really enjoy driving and like meeting new people so this is an ideal job for me. It’s lovely to know the passengers really appreciate the service. I have met some lovely people doing this job, it’s nice to feel I’ve been of some help in getting people out and about. Before learning to drive I was reliant on other people for lifts. Now I can repay that debt. Bill, Volunteer for 2 years
