A message from our Patron – Anne Cadbury OBE JP DL

Last year Community Connexions continued to grow its services across Gloucestershire, providing vital transport for the most vulnerable in our communities.

Recent demographic projections for Gloucestershire indicate demand for our services could increase dramatically in the future. It therefore seems a rather inopportune time for the government to start re-examining the permit system used by community transport organisations for many years, with the possible unintended consequence of reducing service provision across the country. I would hope the government takes account of the positive impact community transport has on thousands of people across the country – reducing social and rural isolation, combating loneliness and improving their quality of life. In a nutshell, our service is a life-line for many.

The government has indicated it will publish its proposals for community transport in the autumn. Whatever those proposals look like I am confident Community Connexions will transform into an organisation which will continue its mission to provide vital transport for those who need it most.
